Project #5 Bio-Dynamics
of Micro-Nano Fibers [Ciliated Surfaces] in Fluid
Flow
This project involves a conceptual design of artificial ciliated surfaces to replace those in biological systems. Ciliated surfaces contain of thousands of vibrating fibers actively moving fluid. The goal will be to understand the biology of such fibers, their interaction with fluids and the possibility of designing a MEMS or NEMS realization of a ciliated surface as either a prosthetic device in a biological system or for application in a non-biological system.
Interested Students in this project should contact Ms. June Meyermann 607-255 0992 or jm75@cornell.edu for an appointment
